142857 is one of my favourite numbers- check out what happens when you multiply it by 2, 3, 4, etc.  Multiplying it by 7 gives the key to this number, it is 999,999. That means that 7 times 0.142857142857… would be 0.999999999999…, also known as “1”. Therefore 0.142857… is a seventh, 0.285714… is 2/7 etc. By memorising the order of these 6 numbers, you can now divide by 7 with no calculator to infinite precision! You can also now divide by 14. For example 3/14 is a tenth of 30/14, and 30/14 is 15/7 which is 2+1/7 = 2.142857… so the answer is 0.2142857… Also note that 22/7 is pretty close to pi!
